Joan's Chisel Box. Hickory and Walnut

Original Conception sketch for my latest piece, a hickory and walnut chisel box I made for Joanie. She lent me these chisels around 2 years ago. I thought when I returned them that they should be used to create their own box.

And here's what it turned out to look like. Surprisingly close to the plan! Amazing!

This is what things looked like when I started. Just a board...

...and this is the finished product again. Probably my favorite piece I've ever made. I love the way the grain pattern worked out.

In with the Old- some past pieces.

Ok, so I thought I'd start out by posting pictures of some of my previous works in various stages of completion to kick things off. Some of these are things I've made in the past when i was solely doing log furniture, some of them recent additions as I've shifted my focus towards finer woodworking. Not all of them are perfect, and not all of them are here. If you have checked out my facebook page, you will most likely recognize most photos. I'll be adding more of my older ones in with the new as I come across them (translation: find where I left the digital files) Enjoy!

Walnut picture frame I made after Dusty sent me some of this coffee to try out. I like how the dark brown walnut color combines with the color of the coffee in his cup to tie it all together. Add some burning and chain flogging for a distressed look, and you have yourself a nice "old" new frame!

Oregon alder and Alaskan yellow cedar bench I made a few years ago. This piece now resides on my parents front porch.

A really fun project I did for a family in Veneta, Oregon, close to being ready for sanding. The logs are Douglas fir and the stiles are maple. I can not find the finished pictures of it to save my life!

Live edge English walnut slabs and curly willow bench. I have over 40 hours into this bench so far, and I'm planing on doing some more tweaking to it sometime this year.

This set of chairs were progressive cuts from a crotch in the walnut tree. The hole is naturally rotted out, I suspect from where a branch was broken off, exposing the inside of the tree to the elements. I just cleaned it up a bit. more in the set to come.

The mate to the other chair of the set. You can make out one of my favorite furniture details in both backs, a butterfly joint made from purple heart. the seats are a brindled cattle hide.
